Little crochet turtle

Materials

  • 3 colors of leftover yarn
  • plastic sheet
  • crochet needle
  • sewing needle
  • safety eyes (but the eyes can also be embroidered

 

 

Head

 

Round 1 – 6  sc into magic ring (6)

Round 2 – inc in each stitch (12)

Round 3 – (1 sc, 1 inc) x6 (18)

Round 4 – (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

Round 5 – 1 sc in each stitch (24)

Round 6 – (1 sc, 1 inc) x12 (36)

Rounds 7-12 – 1 sc in each stitch (36)

Place the safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10 on either side of the head. Draw together the sides of the head using a back and forth stitch so it’s not spherical.

Round 13 – (1 sc, 1 dec) x12 (24)

Round 14 – (1 sc, 1 dec) x12 (16)

Rounds 15-21 – 1 sc in each stitch (16)

Stuff it loosely, but only the head. Flatten it and crochet the end together.

 

Legs (4 pieces)

Round 1 – 6 sc into magic ring

Round 2 – inc in each stitch (12)

Round 3 – (1 sc, 1 inc) x6 (18)

Round 4 – (2 sc, inc) x6 (24)

Rounds 5-7 – 1 sc in each stitch (24)

Round 8 – (1 sc, 1 dec) x8 (16)

Rounds 9-11 – 1 sc in each stitch (16)

Only stuff the spherical part, flatten the edge and crochet it together with 4 single crochets.

 

 

TAIL

Round 1 – 6 sc into magic ring

Round 2 – 1 inc in first stitch, 5 sc (7)

Round 3 – 1 inc in first stitch, 6 sc (8)

Round 4 – 1 inc in first stitch, 7 sc (9)

Round 5 – 1 inc in first stitch, 8 sc (10)

Round 6 – 1 inc in first stitch, 9 sc (11)

Round 7 – 1 inc in first stitch, 10 sc (12)

Flatten the edge and crochet it together with 4 single crochets.

TURTLE BOTTOM PART

Round 1 – 6 sc into magic ring

Round 2 – inc in each stitch (12)

Round 3 – (1 sc, 1 inc) x6 (18)

Round 4 – (2 sc, 1 inc) x6 (24)

Round 5 – (3 sc, 1 inc) x6 (30)

Round 6 – (4 sc, 1 inc) x6 (36)

Round 10 – (8 sc, 1 inc) x6 (60). Close the round with 1 slip stitch, cut and finish the yarn.

TURTLE TOP PART

Round 1 – 6 single crochet (sc) into magic ring

Round 2 – increase (inc) in each stitch (12)

Round 3 – inc in each stitch (24)

Round 4 – (1 sc, 1 inc) x12 (36)

Rounds 5-6 – 1 sc in each stitch (36)

Round 7 – (2 sc, 1 inc) x12 (48)

Rounds 8-10 – 1 sc in each stitch (48)

Round 11 – (3 sc, 1 inc) x12 (60)

Rounds 12-14 – 1 sc in each stitch (60).

Don’t cut the yarn, as you’ll be using it to crochet the bottom shell to the top.

ASSEMBLY

Cut out a plastic circle that’s smaller than the bottom part

Crochet the bottom shell to the top one, and when it still fits, insert the plastic circle and stuff it. Leave enough stitches so the head can still be inserted.

Push the head slightly inside (approx. 2 rows) and sew it between the bottom and top parts, at the end, secure it to the shell with a few stitches.

Sew the legs and the tail under the crochet join. Use the color of the top shell for sewing.
